Departure and Return Times:
- Departure from university gate: 3:30 AM
- Arrival at the power plant: Early morning hours
- Return: 4:00 PM from the power plant gate
Visit Objectives:
- Gain practical familiarity with electrical energy production processes in a thermal power plant.
- Observe key equipment such as turbomachinery and plant control systems.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge with field experiences in mechanical engineering and energy fields.
Visit Program:
1. Theoretical Session (Morning):
Introduction to the Power Plant:
- Educational clips and slides presented by the power plant’s public relations engineers.
- Explanation of the structure of Neka Power Plant and its role in the country’s electricity grid.
Familiarization with Energy Production Cycles:
- Explanation of steam and combined cycles and their differences.
- Interactive Q&A between students and power plant experts.
2. Practical Session (After Lunch):
Tour of Main Equipment:
- Observation of turbomachinery (gas and steam turbines), combustion chambers, and cooling basins.
- Review of operational and maintenance challenges by the power plant engineers.
Control Room (CCR):
- Introduction to real-time monitoring and control systems of the power plant processes.
- Addressing students’ specialized questions regarding plant safety and efficiency.
Achievements and Feedback:
- Enhanced Practical Understanding: Direct observation of equipment complemented concepts taught in university courses.
